Athletic Therapy is a health care profession that specializes in the prevention, assessment and care of musculoskeletal disorders and injuries (muscles, bones, & joints), especially as they relate to active individuals pursuing athletics, physical activity and healthy lifestyles! Athletic Therapists employ a sports medicine model of rehabilitation to physical injuries occurring from sports, recreation, accidents, daily activities and occupations.

A big myth surrounding athletic therapy is that it is only for athletes, when it couldn’t be farther from the truth! Athletic therapists treat many different people, from pediatrics to geriatrics, elite athletes to weekend warriors, to those maintaining an active lifestyle, or injuries that come from having a physically demanding job … Athletic Therapy can help!

Athletic Therapists maintain a clear focus on patient education and taking an ACTIVE approach to their injury and rehabilitation. Athletic Therapy sessions will combine an in-depth orthopedic assessment, hands-on manual therapy, therapeutic modalities, patient education and an individualized exercise prescription.

Many extended health companies provide coverage for Athletic Therapy such as; All Sport Insurance Marketing / Canadian Hockey Assoc. / Co-Operators / Empire / Great West Life / Green Shield / Manulife / Sunlife / Canada Life.
