Marie Bullock

Marie is committed to addressing clients’ physical, cognitive, and mental health concerns. She was born and raised in Castlegar, B.C. After graduating from Stanley Humphries’ Secondary School, she attended The King’s University College in Edmonton, Alberta to complete her Bachelor’s in Psychology with the goal of preventing suicide.  This led her to pursue volunteer work during her undergraduate psychology degree, including volunteering at McKim Cottage and the Clubhouse in Nelson, and the Daly Pavilion in Trail, as well as job shadowing two psychiatrists (in Nelson and Castlegar). Not ever seeing herself as a “talk therapist,” she decided to pursue a research Masters of Science in Psychiatry at McGill University with the McGill Group for Suicide Studies. It was during this degree that she learned about occupational therapy, and was immediately drawn to its holistic, client-centered approach. Marie decided to take a year off before returning to academia, and this “year off” turned into three years, wherein she obtained research experience in the Occupational Therapy department of the University of Alberta, obtained her group fitness certification, and worked in the fitness industry teaching group fitness classes to seniors at seniors facilities, and adults at the YMCA who were re-entering regular fitness activity after a disability or newly diagnosed chronic health condition. She obtained her Master of Science in Occupational Therapy degree from the University of Alberta, during which she had student placements in private practice ergonomics and adult mental health (following a psychosocial rehabilitation/recovery framework). Since graduating from the UofA, Marie has worked as an OT for Correctional Services Canada in a federal penitentiary, and for Alberta Health Services in Family Medicine and General Internal Medicine at the UofA hospital, and Arthroplasty (adults with hip and knee replacements) at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. Marie is excited to apply and grow her OT skills at Kootenay Health Services serving clients in her hometown community.

Marie has certifications in Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused Interviewing, CBT Tools, Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training, Myofascia Stretch training, TRX Sports Medicine, Zumba®, is an Older Adult Specialty Leader with the Alberta Fitness Leadership Certification, and is a Grief Recovery Specialist.
